Blog # 2.2 Mother Tongue or Foreign

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
Nelson Mandela

Mother Tongue vs. Foreign Language

We communicate to others using different languages. The one that our own country uses is our mother tongue and it is called Tagalog. We, Filipinos, speak Tagalog in our normal conversations. It’s true that it is very comfortable to speak using our own language but if you were asked, what would you choose?

Foreign languages are important, especially when we go to other places. Learning it would make us understand what foreign people are talking about. English is one example of a foreign language. As you can see nowadays, almost all of us know how to speak English, even if it’s just a small amount. It is the language used by most of the people in the world to talk to other races. There are a lot more languages other than that but, English is the one widely spoken.

If I were to choose a language, I think I would pick foreign languages, because it is not only important to us, but to others as well. When we go to foreign countries, learning their language is so important so that we can understand their thoughts. I am a Filipino and I am proud of my own language, but you cannot deny the fact that learning other languages is far important in terms of how we live here on earth.
